An adorable Instagram video from @cactustherescue shows a sweet bond between an “overly affectionate” rescue pup named Cactus and his dad. In the video, Cactus sits upright on a couch with his eyes glued to his dad while his dad sits at his desk with his laptop open, trying to focus. The on-screen caption explains the setup: “Trying to work with an overly affectionate rescue pup.” And then, right on cue, “staring begins.”

Rescue pup wants cuddles from dad every waking second

In the video, Dad finally turns around, clearly feeling the rescue pup’s gaze burning a hole through the room, and asks, “What are you looking at?” Cactus doesn’t move. He just sits there, calm as can be, with the most innocent face. The video even adds his “reply” on screen, reading, “Oh…nothing.” A second later, though, Cactus “continues staring.”

Dad tries again, asking, “What?” but Cactus maintains his nonchalant energy with nothing but a steady look that says, “You know exactly what I want.” Judging by dad’s reaction, he clearly does. He gives in with, “You come on Daddy’s lap,” and Cactus immediately hops down from the couch and climbs right into him. In the next scene, Dad cuddles him close and asks, “Is that better,” while Cactus peacefully settles in.

The video’s caption explains that Cactus will sit “locked in like, ‘I’ll wait.’” It also notes that once he gets the lap invitation, “the second he did, he knocked out,” adding, “He’s honestly been like this since the day I rescued him. Always wants to be close, always checking where I am.”

When rescue dogs feel safe, they stick close and check in. They make sure their person is still there; for attention, yes, but also because they don’t want a safe bond to disappear.

Viewers melted over Cactus’ mannerisms. One comment gushed, “Such good manners. Always waits to be invited,” while another called him “Such a sweet soul,” and a third commenter wrote, “Best teleworking coworker ever!!” And Cactus truly is the best coworker companion.
